Hygge Interior Design Style

Hygge, pronounced ‘hue-gah’ is a way of life in Denmark. In essence Hygge brings focus to the simple things such as your daily well being and living in the present.

Hygge style complements a simple yet fulfilled lifestyle. Creating hygge means a cosy home with simple pleasures such as candles, a beautiful warm fireplace, neutral tones and wonderful textures.

We don’t have a word for ‘hygge’ in the English language but as hyggehouse.com explains, ‘the idea of hygge can be described as cosiness, charm, happiness, ‘contentedness’, security, familiarity, comfort, reassurance, kinship, and (simplicity). It is always cosy, charming and special’.

French Provincial Interior Design Style

Lavish, luxe and loved. Three words to describe French provincial style which originated in the 1700’s. Originating as the style of the wealthy, think French country manor, it was emulated by the not so wealthy. The result is where the luxe and ornate intersects with organic, rustic charm.

A large number of products from Sareen Stone’s range of natural stone and porcelains will fit into your French provincial style.

Whether you want to add a few simple touches or take your French provincial styling all the way, here are some ideas for the 21st century.

  • Include a mix of neutral, muted colours, soft greys and white
  • Timber or tiled floors, tiled splash backs
  • Distressed, rustic furniture such as side boards, tables or free standing linen cupboards
  • Include organic fabrics such as cotton or linen.
  • Add touches of lace & ornate accessories including a chandelier and mirrors
  • Soft drapes and timber shutters

A large number of products from Sareen Stone’s range of natural stone and porcelains will fit into your French provincial style but we highlight 3 of our favourites below that will really set the tone for this design style:

Scandinavian Interior Design Style

What is it about Scandinavian style that makes it still ever so popular? Over the last 10 years ‘Scandi’ style has found its place in the design style files more and more.

Nordic influences on this style are that it is often nature based, understated and organic materials like timber are important. When you think of Scandinavian design think clever, simple design ideas that work.

While IKEA is the undisputed home of Scandinavian design in Australia, this style is so prolific right now that ‘Scandi’ furniture and accessories can be found in a variety of retail stores from the likes of the Reject Shop right through to designer boutiques.

Modern Interior Design Style

As opposed to contemporary, modern style encompasses design that has its focus squarely on function and innovation. Confusion can reign however, because modern style can incorporate contemporary elements.

While some modern elements could be considered contemporary, but importantly, in decades from now they will still belong to modernism.

Incorporating a Modern style typically means more classic with a pared back colour palette on walls together with simple flooring. While the flooring will incorporate a neutral colour palette it can be darker in tone.

Modern style can be defined to some extent as minimalist, championing uncluttered and sleek interiors with an open plan design. For some it is understated elegance that will stand the test of time.

A large array of products from Sareen Stone’s range of natural stone and porcelains will fit into your Modern style but we highlight 3 of our favourites below that will really set the tone for this design style:

Hampton Interior Design Style

Escape to the Hamptons, Long Island, New York where cool, sophisticated beach style is common place.

The Hamptons is all about classic muted colours: neutral tones reminiscent of colours of the beach and accents of blues both light and dark. The result is a casual elegance that stays in style despite changing trends.

Shutters on windows and doors are synonymous with the Hamptons look and whilst a space can be minimalist to some degree, colours and texture from throw rugs, cushions, floor rugs and artwork are incorporated to ensure a sense of coziness is not lost!

Hamptons style works well with open plan living spaces cleverly divided into ‘rooms’ by furniture placement. High ceilings and large windows mean light filled rooms that seamlessly flow from inside to out embrace the beachside lifestyle.

Classic styled furniture such as generous sofas covered in neutral toned fabrics are a must as are lamps with shell detail or simple neutral coloured shades. Shell pendant lights are pretty easy to find these days and can make a statement!

Cane furniture – rattan or wicker can be incorporated to give the style an earthy, grounded feel. To add a touch of glamour, add a chandelier or a little bit of glitz with a mirror or two.

A large array of products from Sareen Stone’s range of natural stone and porcelains will fit into your Hamptons look but we highlight 3 of our favourites below that will really set the tone for this design style:

1. Porcelain Timber Lookalike – Rovere or Rovere Palissandro

  • Rovere Timber lookalike porcelain tile offers a lighter palette reminiscent of a sandy beach. It is available in a finish suitable for interiors and one for exteriors. Being a tile it is easy to maintain and perfect for high traffic areas.
  • Rovere Palissandro is a darker timber lookalike porcelain tile available for interiors and exteriors.

2. Crema Vialle Alfresco Limestone

Crema Vialle Alfresco Limestone is worth your consideration for a Hampton Style exterior as it offers a neutral base with warm ivory tones and has excellent slip resistance.

3. Crema Vialle Premium Limestone

Crema Vialle Premium Limestone will complement any design style but will sit right at home in a Hamptons styled interior. With timeless ivory tones, this limestone offers the perfect backdrop for textured rugs, colourful cushions and large furniture.

The Industrial Interior Design Style

The Industrial Look is no longer limited to lofts and refurbished warehouse apartments. Its popularity now spans not only residential design but also commercial and retail spaces. When it comes to industrial style, simplicity and functionality are the order of the day.

Think exposed beams, pipework and masonry; the combination of raw timber, stone and metal and high ceilings with large windows where natural light beams through to breathe warmth into those hard surfaces.

Typically, an industrial look is created with accents of darker neutral tones, from mid grey to charcoal to black. Open shelving, tracked lighting or bare globe pendants, large open plan spaces and vintage furniture all add to the appeal of this design.
